Finding Your Self-Confidence for You
The world is a busy place, filled with a lot of stressful situations that we can’t seem to avoid. Now more than ever, so many of us have gone on ‘survival mode’, shutting down many of the things that bring us joy, in the name of simply getting through the day. In such an environment, things such as beauty, aesthetics and ‘self-care’ not only seem like luxuries, but almost shameful indulgences we shouldn’t even be thinking about, let alone prioritizing. After all, ‘beauty’ is only skin deep – it’s not going to make a lasting impression on your life. Your time is a valuable commodity; you need to be spending it on the things that really matter.
If this sounds familiar, even a little bit, I’m going to let you in on a little secret that takes many of us far too long to learn: you are important. The things that make you happy, that give you confidence and make you proud of who you are, are important. If self-care for you looks like refreshing your outer layer so that you can feel fabulous on the inside, then you shouldn’t let anyone stop you – not even you.
Let me introduce Laura Benson, the clinic coordinator at A Wrinkle In Time (28 Mill St., Orangeville), and one of their very first clients. Three years ago, Laura was in a high stress part of her life. Being the primary caregiver for both her husband and her mother did not leave a lot of time for herself. Selfcare and ‘me time’ were certainly on the bottom of her list – if they made the list at all.

As a result, Laura was suffering from severe adult acne. This acne had led to many more skin issues – divots and indentations in the skin, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. It had reached a point in which Laura wasn’t even looking in mirrors any more. She confessed, “I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I looked at the before pictures.”
Life-long friends with clinic owner, Tammy Brady, Laura joined her friend on the courses necessary to start the journey of opening A Wrinkle In Time. As they both learned of the various procedures and what was available, it was a door opening. In Laura’s words, she realised, “I don’t have to look like this forever.”

The first step in Laura’s journey was three rounds of Micro Needling, often called ‘Vampire Facials’, to help trigger the healing process and rejuvenate the skin. From there they moved on to Botox and fillers, which helped lift and smooth out Laura’s previously pocketed skin. A trademark of Tammy’s clinic and business practices is that she never overfills – No matter how much a client thinks it is what they want. She has their best interests and health in mind first, always.
Following the Botox was a PleXR treatment around Laura’s eyes. This was a non-surgical blepharoplasty (eyelift), which restored the skin in this particular area of Laura’s face. Lifting and rejuvenating it, all without a single invasive procedure. Then she had her eyebrows microbladed by Mary at Foxy Face.
The final steps in Laura’s journey were twofold. The first was a treatment which uses plasma technology to resurface the skin then influence the new cell development for the future aging process. Finally, the use of paramedical tattooing, treatment done by Savannah Rendall (Inked Therapy) also at A Wrinkle in Time. This replaced pigment loss [hypo pigmentation] to help even out Laura’s complexion.
The speed of the entire process and the genuine, noticeable affects that Laura saw at each stage of the journey were an astonishment to her. There is often a belief that these processes are just gimmicks – but Laura has discovered for herself, just how much they actually work.
Twice during this journey, she had such a transformation it was necessary to change her foundation colour, and these days Laura finds she doesn’t need foundation at all.
Now when she’s out, people comment and compliment her on her face. Again, in Laura’s words, “I never thought that could happen for me.”
If Laura wants people to take anything from her journey it’s this: confidence is not something for only a select few. If you want something specially for you, then it is worth it. Life, unfortunately, is short, so don’t waste it by not making yourself happy.
It doesn’t have to be a grand transformation; start with something small, be that a facial or peel treatment, a nice long bath, or even just taking the time to buy the right facial cleanser for you. Whatever it is, the message is clear: you’re more than worth it, so whatever it is that you’ve been dreaming of, go after it. Trust us, you deserve it.
