Creating Custom Personal Experiences

Jewellery marks many special occasions. From weddings to births and even end of life, jewellery is so often purchased or gifted to mark these moments in time. It is also passed down through generations, creating a personal value that is far more significant than merely the weight of the metals and gems that make up the piece. As such, when you’re considering a new piece of jewellery, it’s important that what you purchase speaks to you, capturing the story that is personal to you and your moment, whether it’s a custom wedding band or a future heirloom to be passed on to your family and loved ones in the future.

This is the reason that Macadi Jewellery, located in Elora for 17 years, have taken the time to commit themselves to not just quality jewellery, but to also providing their clients with an experience that leaves them excited for their new piece and its potential. In this day and age of constant availability, with so many stores open for any and all drop in traffic, Macadi’s decision to be by appointment-only surprises many. However, what may seem like an inconvenience on the surface, has been chosen intentionally, with your valuable time in mind.

As we’ve already discussed, jewellery selection should be an extremely personal decision, and custom jewellery even more so. By booking an appointment, Macadi Jewellery can ensure that they make the most of your time, devoting their attention entirely to you and what you are looking for. It’s an intimate exchange, providing you space to get to know Mandy and her all-women team, and for them to hear from you exactly what you’re looking for, to ensure they craft a piece that tells your story perfectly.

However, Macadi knows that an appointment can be intimidating, particularly if you don’t know what you want, only that you want something. That’s why they are open on Saturdays, excluding long weekends, from 10am – 4pm, for a more casual browsing experience. Saturdays are a great day to look at their work, perhaps buy something from their curated collections such as the Escarpment, Antique Mirror and Nature’s Impressions, to name just a few. You can also get an idea of what Macadi is capable of making and what you are looking for. Once you’ve done that, they still encourage you to book an appointment, so that they can devote their time exclusively to you, and what you are looking for.

As Macadi Jewellery works on each piece from scratch, they have more freedom to create whatever design may be lingering in their clients’ minds rather than what some traditional jewellery stores can offer. While those other stores and jewellery lines may be limited by a set group of mounts and gemstones that can only pair together in a limited number of ways, Macadi can create nearly anything that you may be thinking of. The only real limitation that they have is with the material itself. They will not jeopardize the integrity of your piece, even for the sake of a design. It’s important that what they create is long lasting and quality made.

Speaking of long lasting, what about those heirlooms that you love, but the years and hands that they have been passed through have left them worn, losing their luster, or perhaps just aren’t your personal style? That’s where their MYGOLD® Heirloom Redesign process comes in. They can take that piece, with some limitations again due to the material, and redesign it into a beautiful custom piece, designed for you alone, while still holding all of that emotional value it came with.

In the end, sitting at her jewellery bench and really getting into the material is Mandy’s favourite part of the business; it’s why Macadi exists at all. While she tends towards an organic style in her original work, drawing inspiration from nature for much of it, Macadi Jewellery can make more traditional pieces as well, particularly when it comes to wedding sets. The one stipulation to any custom work is that they will not copy another artist’s work. They believe that each piece they make should be individual and unique to the person that it is made for. Having an image or a style in mind for a starting point is great, encouraged even, however they will work with you from there to ensure that it is your piece, designed for you alone and not a copy of someone else’s.

While it takes 6-8 weeks to complete a piece on average, any custom project that is needed by a set date (such as a wedding), should be started at least three months before that date to ensure that it will be completed to your exact vision in time for your big moment.
