Well if you answered no, then join a growing group. A constant influx in remote working from home, an increase in cyber threats and an uptick in the growth of crime, have made purchasing a high-end security system for your home a necessity, instead of a luxury. In fact, perhaps you can look at the expense of ‘bulking’ up security as an added safety net, for you and your family!

Enter, RAM Audio-Video-Security’s Jason Rossi, who is the expert in the field of security and the person you want to connect with. Located in Newmarket, Ontario, the company has been in business since 2000 and over the years have worked with several well-known and respected companies like Brentview Electronics and Absolute Video Theatre. This helped lead to contracts with companies like Walmart and Bell Media. “After being subbed-out to retail stores like Brentview and Absolute Video, I decided that it was time to go out on my own. I had learned quite a bit about the security business by having the opportunity to work with these large, reputable companies, so I said to myself, hey, I can do this and the rest you could say is history so to speak!” Jason explains that his experience working in retail during his younger years helped him become more people-friendly. This ultimately paved the way for his career in the home theatre industry as well as working with Card Access Systems for various businesses. After completing vendor-sponsored courses to stay ahead with new technology, RAM Audio-Video-Security began securing contracts to sell cutting-edge WiFi and camera systems. Over time, these systems evolved from traditional setups to IP-based solutions, and most recently, they have migrated to AI-powered camera systems. He says that because there’s quite a bit of progression and technology changes constantly within the security business, it has become an essential that as a company, they continue to stay up-to-date on what’s happening within the industry.
According to their website, RAM Audio-Video-Security is an installation maintenance company and a service contractor, but now the company’s concentration is on security. Why the shift in business?
“One reason, it’s pretty ‘hectic’ out there security wise. I get at least one or two phone calls from property management companies a week, as we continue to do work in quite a few plazas and large trucking yards. There always seems to be a theft or a break-in, so as a company we realized that security was the way to go. We still do home theatre and audio-video on the side, however, security remains the main bulk of our business and we continue to attend vendor-sponsored courses to help keep us abreast of the new technologies and how we can implement them into the workplace or homes.”

I asked Jason how he got involved in the business?
“I’ve always been a little bit of a ‘techy’, especially when I was young. In fact, my mother said that when I was eight, I took apart her stereo and tried to put it all back together again! (laughs) In high school, I started working on car alarms and car audio systems in my driveway and that’s pretty much where it all started. I have always had a passion for technology and even to this day, at 52-years-old, the company is still going strong and continues to evolve and take on new challenges. I love what I do and there is never a day where I get up in the morning and complain that I have to go to work! The key is to have a passion to do what you like to do and the money will follow after that. I believe also, that If you are passionate about your work, then you have a better chance to be successful!”

RAM Audio-Video-Security currently employs six people. “I prefer to stay small so that all of my employees are guaranteed work. Many of our customers are repeat ones as there is always something new on the market that they want to upgrade to and that is what keeps us going.
As technology continues to change, how does Jason stay up-to- date on new products to add to the company profile?
“We are registered with Security Canada and our main vendors like ADI and Gentec will call us or send an email that will say something like ‘DSC Alarms has a new device and we have a class at a certain time’. Our vendors will reach out to us via email and get us into a class with other security alarm integrators and then they spend the time teaching us about their new products.”
RAM Audio-Video-Security services the Greater Toronto area and pretty much all of Ontario according to Jason. “We still have to be competitive with our pricing and we are a small company, but because of the growth within the security industry, we continue to be very busy and busy is a good thing.
