Summer is Here, and There is So Much to Do!

We are blessed to live in such a beautiful and busy area. Busy, in the sense of the many summer activities happening all around our county. So now that we’re fully in to the swing of summer, let’s look at some of the amazing things happening right here in our own backyard…

Let’s begin with the obvious, and some of the best, local farmers markets. Living where we do, we have direct access to “farm to table” freshness, brought to us by our proud local farming community! From berries to fresh vegetables, homemade honey, preserves, and organic everything, our area has some of the best products to offer. Orangeville, Guelph, Elora, Arthur, are just a few of the many area towns hosting farmers markets every week.

The Library. Always check out your local library to see what sort of summer programs they’ll be running. No doubt there will be “camps” for all ages, and with these ones, you don’t have to sign up. Most camps are offered free to library members, and participants are able to just drop in and join!

The RibFest, usually organized and run by local service clubs, provides 3 “rib-sticky” days of fun, food, games, music, and the classic “Midway” for the thrill seekers out there!

Summer is the time when most of the local pubs to move their weekend entertainment outside (weather permitting), and makes for a great evening of dinner and drinks on the patio, while listening to some of our amazing local musical talent.

The Elora Gorge provides for a very cool and interesting day trip, with so many things to see and do like river tubing, bicycle touring, exploring the trails, climbing down into the gorge and standing under your own personal waterfall, and beautiful beaches. You can then check out the many pubs and restaurants along the river, and in the historic village. And don’t forget all of the fantastic artsy-cultury boutique shopping in this quaint little town!

A classic: Picnics! There are so many incredible parks, trails in our area, and of course there’s always scenic Island Lake. Summer’s when the family packs a lunch, sits down in a beautiful area, and really enjoy some family “down time”. It’s an easy and peaceful way of spending some good time together, and to enjoy the beautiful vast nature that is our county.

I could go on, however LivingSpaces & Life Styles Magazine has made it easy for you! Just visit our website ( and check our “Events Calendar”. It has the information on what’s going on in and around Dufferin and Wellington Counties, as well as Peel Region and surrounding areas. Happy summer-ing!
