Orangeville Theatre – Robin Hood and More!

“They say the neon lights are bright, on Broadway…”

Well, they may not be neon, but the lights that light up the beautiful historic Opera House on Broadway in downtown Orangeville certainly showcase the wealth of talent that lies within its thick stone walls.

Theatre Orangeville is a true jewel in our community, a place that celebrates the arts through stage productions, concerts, and programs focused on developing youth involvement the performing arts. Since its conception, Theatre Orangeville has been dedicated to almost exclusively using works by Canadian playwrights, and has proudly hosted several world premiere productions.

Throughout the year, Theatre Orangeville hosts several different productions, so there’s sure to be something for every palette. Currently, the classic “Robin Hood” is set to debut Friday Aug 24 for a weekend run on the incredible Island Stage at the Island Lake Conservation Area. This show is being brought to life courtesy the Theatre Orangeville Young Company, and features the talents of a dynamic group of young artists from right here in our surrounding area.

Following up at the Opera House in September is “True Confessions From The Ninth Concession”, a humorous take on rural life performed in story and song, starring and written by award-winning local playwright Dan Needles. “Lunenburg”, the story of a widow who must suddenly deal with a well-kept secret from her recently-deceased husband, hits the stage in October. Our widow decides to enlist the help of her best friend to solve the mystery, and what follows is a tale of twists and turns, as well as love and laughter.

To round out the year, and bring us laughing into the festive season, the timeless tale “A Christmas Story” runs late November into December. Forget sugarplums, it’ll be visions of “Red Rider BB guns” and “leg lamps” that’ll be dancing in your head after you take in this hilarious production!

The line-up for Theatre Orangeville’s 2019 productions looks just as amazing, and you can check them all out at their website www.theatreorangeville.ca

So save yourself the drive, the parking, and all the hassles of heading down to the big ‘ol city for your entertainment, and book a show (or two) at Theatre Orangeville. Make it complete by heading to one of the many amazing Broadway restaurants for a pre-show dinner, or an after show celebration!
