When I was a kid, my parents decided to paint our kitchen. It was the first time since they built the house that they had decided to take on a painting project. I remember lengthy discussions on which paint to buy, whether they needed to prime the walls first or not, and which method was going to be the best to get the paint properly applied (brush, rollers, both?) – and this wasn’t even including settling on a colour that would make everybody happy.
When it’s something that you’ve done day-in and day-out, painting projects might seem like old hat, but I would wager that my parents aren’t alone in their concern and questions – they needed someone who understood what they were doing to point them in the right direction, and that’s exactly what places like Focus on Decorating do!
An independent company, serving the Orangeville community for over 24 years, Focus on Decorating is located at 88 First Street and they have the talent, experience and product to make sure that your painting or design project goes smoothly the very first time. As my story with my parents already highlighted, there are a lot of things to consider when it comes to painting, and a lot of questions that should be asked before you start. Some of them are obvious, and some of them you might not realize until you’re already knee deep in paint (hopefully only metaphorically). It’s not uncommon, when a problem occurs to dig your heels in an attempt to solve it yourself, but that’s exactly what the team at Focus on Decorating is there to help you with. You might not know what went wrong, but they do – so let them help!
One common example of this is blaming the paint; when something goes wrong it seems easy to simply blame your paint quality, however, that can lead to more problems not less. The environment, and nature of what you’re putting the paint on can have just as much effect on the outcome. Consulting an expert either before you start, or as soon as you encounter a problem can save you a lot of hassle and grief. This is something to especially keep in mind in the summer months when outdoor projects such as painting or staining decks and sheds are popular. With projects such as these something as simple as not giving the wood enough time to dry fully after rain can cause issues with the project – which Focus on Decorating can definitely tell you all about before you start.
As I mentioned at the beginning, technical advice is only one part of the problem – you don’t want to put in all the work that goes into painting without knowing that you’ve selected the right colour; which of course, Focus on Decorating is more than equipped to help you with too. With their in-store and home consultation options (conditions allowing for each), they are ready to help you complete any home project that you might have in mind.
When it comes to colours, visuals are everything; bringing a photo of what you’re looking for, if you can’t do a home consultation, will go a long way towards getting you exactly what you’re looking for. While heading into the store to see their wide range of colour samples and pallets is ideal, the last year has taught us that “in person” is not always going to be an option; if you can’t come into the store for any reason, Focus on Decorating recommends you head over to Benjamin Moore (their primary paint dealer), to look at their colour selection to get an idea of what you like. Once you have a few colours that you want to see in mind, give them a call and provide them with the name of the colour as shown on the website. They’ll set it aside for you so you can come in and see it in person when you’re able with little to, no fuss.
As for the little extras, they also carry wallpaper, and window coverings and shades (Hunter Douglas being another big name for them), thereby ensuring they have everything you need for a one stop shop.
In the end, you put a lot of time and effort into making your home look great, and there is no need to make a project any harder than it needs to be. Next time you want to start painting, do yourself a favour and check out Focus on Decorating. They’ll take all the guess work out of your project, and get you rolling your paint on smoothly – every time.
