GK Interior Solutions Inc. is a wholly Canadian owned and operated company with over 30 years of experience and expertise. They have grown rapidly to their present standing as a respected force in the Store Fixture, Commercial Millwork and Kitchen & Bath Design industry.

Their commitment has always been and continues to be customer oriented, integrity driven and focused on quality workmanship.
Designer Doreen Czimmek has been in the industry for almost 25 years, designing kitchens, bathrooms and custom storage solutions for her customers, throughout North America. When the opportunity arose for GK to partner with Blue Valley Building Corporation (also based out of Guelph), for a rural home build project just outside of Guelph, she was thrilled to be asked to participate in this innovative project.
Blue Valley Building Corporation is known for developing innovative systems and products to help the construction industry leap beyond Net Zero to building Net Positive homes. Over the years they have evolved from their roots as a custom home builder to focus on revolutionizing the construction industry with its superior system for building homes using panelized wall systems and insulated wall forms, wall and floor systems. They differentiate themselves by prioritizing material selections to reduce greenhouse gasses throughout the entire value stream, including throughout the manufacturing and construction processes. Products and materials are chosen to deliver healthy and comfortable living.
When Doreen set out to start the design process for the kitchen, bathrooms, and storage solutions in this home, she wanted to create something a little different – something that would reflect the unique structure and composition of the home, utilizing innovative materials with minimal environmental impact. “I loved the idea of this project because it required some out-of-the-box thinking”, says Czimmek. “We had the opportunity to work with materials and manufacturers that we do not get to work with on a day-to-day basis”.
Her design plan was to create something airy and light, that would bring nature inside the home and to ensure the interior was not competing with nature outside. Described as mid-century modern with a twist, Doreen used warm, matte and natural tones in combination with whites to bring a modern feel to the project that was further punctuated by the sloped roof and angled windows that serve to fill the home with natural light and give it a warm but contemporary feel.
Starting with the kitchen, Doreen used a high-end melamine material to create two-toned cabinetry in a warm grey, combined with a real natural walnut. “There are many products on the market today such as Sublime Melamine that offer supermatte coloured materials, which are currently very popular” says Doreen. “They offer high quality finishes that are much more durable than painted wood. People tend to think of melamine or laminates as being inexpensive, but manufacturers are now offering higher end products that are technologically advanced including recycled, anti- bacterial, and self-healing melamines. The options for textures and tones are unlimited, and they add a sleek and beautiful look to any room”. Accented with matte black fixtures and hardware, including a convenient pot filler and Silgranit sink, and finished off with “Smart” stainless steel appliances including a built in below-the-counter microwave drawer, this kitchen is functional and beautiful with all the features any home chef could wish for. The attached butler’s pantry, finished in the same sleek warm grey, features open shelving and plenty of lower drawer storage with additional counter space.
A beautiful, textured walnut-look melamine and a contemporary clean white matte finish, carry through to the spectacular walk-in closet in the main bedroom and on to the stunning ensuite bathroom, where the floating vanity and side storage unit provide a modern-spa like feel and add texture to the room.
In keeping with the environmentally focused theme of the home, GK Interior Solutions chose to install Silestone Loft Series Nolita Quartz countertops with Hybriq+ technology in the kitchen and butler’s pantry. This innovative product utilizes a new production process which adheres to the company’s commitment to the environment, the circular economy and sustainable management. The countertops are composed of reused raw materials, including recycled glass, and the production process is carried out through the utilization of 98% recycled water and 100% renewable energy.
This futuristic home is a prime example of Canadian innovation in home building and interior design. This type of commitment to sustainability and use of new technologies throughout the process is the future of the industry. The experience and vision of the GK Interior Solutions design team and their continued growth and position within the marketplace is a true reflection of their commitment to their customers and forward-thinking mindset.
